That, however, is not the serial number. GAD label numbers were sequential and did not directly relate to the date produced. However, there is. Guild Guitars does not have complete information regarding serial numbers of. Date of manufacture and the remaining characters indicate the unit number of.
Shopping for a 12-string Guild, I came across a shop on Reverb where the original proprietor had passed away, and his son took the business over and was starting to work through his inventory of 700+ guitars. The father had gotten old and was not as energetic in moving the inventory, so apparently he has a lot of NOS. After doing research and reading almost every Guild-related post on this forum and letstalkguild, I wound up buying a really nice amber sunburst GAD G212.
Part of my research was around serial numbers. GAD's were built from 2004-2011. They have a round label inside with a GADXXXXX number on them. That, however, is not the serial number. GAD label numbers were sequential and did not directly relate to the date produced. However, there is a 10-digit stamped number on the heel block that DOES correlate to production date (1st two digits are year, 2nd two are month). The issue is that every shop and every quote you see shows the GAD number and very few are aware that there is a separate serial number.
So, being the geek I am, I put together a short list of quotes where BOTH numbers were known, or the actual date of production, which would allow someone to look at a GAD number and relate it to date (see below). Now my goal is to collect more databuild a more robust list, and I will put it out in a few places like this for the reference of other owners or shoppers.
So......anyone that owns a Guild GAD model, can you please post the model you have, the GAD number, and the heel block number?
